Woman of power

Actress Robin Tunney of Warner Channel's "The Mentalist" chatted with MAGAZINE about the fifth season.

For almost six years, actress Robin Tunney has given life to agent Teresa Lisbon on "The Mentalist", as a confident, straight-arrow, no-nonsense woman, used to being in charge.

Before diving in the series, she consolidated a movie career, with titles like "The Craft", "Supernova" and "Empire Records", on top of participating in series like "Law and Order".

However, it's "The Mentalist", in Latin America broadcasted by Warner Channel, where she's gotten that consistency so desired by so many actors.

MAGAZINE had the chance of speaking with Tunney in a meeting with the press, where she was open to answer questions in a friendly manner. The first thing she said upon knowing the presence of Costa Rican media was how much she liked to vacation here, she's done it three times and her destination has been the paradisiac Santa Teresa beach.

"It's a beautiful country, I love it", she said.

About the next season that will be enjoyed by June in Costa Rica, she said that there are dark episodes ahead. Also that the relationship between Teresa (the character that she plays) with the main character Patrick Jane, detective capable of reading minds, will change, though she didn't want to get into if there will finally be a romance between them, a question often asked by fans of the show.

Among the novelties, there's the addition of new characters and some recurring ones, one of them Kevin Corrigan that plays the part of Robert Kirkland.

"It's a mysterious character, you don't know if he's a good or bad one, but it's great", she said.

The actress doesn't hesitate to affirm that this fifth season is by far the best she's had, although the first one was the hardest.

"Without a doubt it was the hardest one, since I was new and we were figuring out what it was about, you're not used to it, it's such long hours", she said.

About her character, Teresa, Tunney says she likes people identifying her with the senior agent.

"Popularity grows and that's very important, I feel blessed because a lot of actors are looking for that consistency, a lot of tv shows don't go past ten episodes or their pilots, and having that economic, emotional and physical stability of being in the same place is incredible."

Nonetheless, she's aware that the show will come to an end at some point, and her hope is that her character ends true to her feelings and not dead in a basement, she joked.

"That doesn't sound like fun, I trust that the writers like the character and have a lot of respect for Teresa."

She also sees the show's stability reflected in her relationship with the whole cast, which she considers a family.

"I feel I know Simon (the main character) better than I know my older brother, and the cast, like a family, you can't choose, so it's a lot of fun."

The actress prepares to start shooting the sixth season in July.
